A Year in Review

As we look forward to an exciting 2017, it is interesting to take a look back at 2016, which has been a very important year in the development of the Edusport Academy.Without doubt, the highlight of the year was being accepted into the Scottish FA as full members. No other private football academy in the world has had the privilege of becoming a full member of a FIFA affiliate association and of this, we are very proud. Andy McNeil joins Chinese Super League club Guangzhou R&F

Although disappointed to lose a great coach, we are very excited for the opportunity which faces Andy in the Chinese Super League. A representative from Guangzhou R&F contacted the Edusport Academy owner, Chris Ewing looking for a Goalkeeping coach and Chris was happy to recommend Andy. A very unique and exciting challenge awaits Andy as he joins up with his new club, managed by former Yugoslav International, Dragan Stojkovic in early January. Gordon Young joins Academy coaching staff

We are delighted to announce that Gordon Young, former assistant manager of Dundee Utd has joined the Edusport Academy’s technical staff. Holder of the illustrious UEFA Pro Licence as well as the UEFA Youth License, Gordon has a very comprehensive coaching career including a very successful spell as Motherwell FC Youth Academy Director. Gordon, one of Scotland’s most respected youth coaches is a fantastic addition to the Academy and is sure to enhance the development of our players. FC Miami City Partnership

In 2015, the Edusport Academy partnered with the American team FC Miami City. The partnership will see an exchange of working practices, ethos and opportunities. Based in Florida, USA, FC Miami City play in the Player Development League and the collaboration will allow certain Edusport Academy players the opportunity to play in the USA upon completion of their year at the Edusport Academy in Scotland. FC Miami City are also official partners of the ‘Ligue de Football Professionel’, charged with promoting the Ligue 1 in the USA as well as working in collaboration with Paris Saint Germain to deliver the…

Edusport Academy Awarded SFA Quality Mark

The Edusport Academy is happy to be awarded the SFA “Quality Mark”. David Sheldon, Club Development Manager in the Scottish FA: We are delighted that the Edusport Academy has now been awarded standard level in the Scottish FA Quality Mark scheme. The scheme which provides a framework for clubs to develop and grow on and off the pitch shows that Chris Ewing and his colleagues are looking to improve his club in all areas. Edusport Academy Women

For the 1st time since it’s creation, the EDUSPORT ACADEMY welcomes women into the Academy. A pilot project launched this year sees 4 young, talented, passionate female footballers from France join the programme. As part of the Edusport Academy, the girls will play with our Partner club, Spartans FC, combining football development with education in the heart of Scotland’s capital city Edinburgh.

The Edusport Academy are delighted to have the backing of Glasgow City, having been given the privilege of wearing the city’s brand ‘PEOPLE MAKE GLASGOW’ on ours strips for the 2015-2016 season. The honour means that the Edusport Academy are the only club in Scotland to wear the city’s slogan on their strips!

New Staff

After a spell at St Mirren, coaching their U20s, we are delighted to welcome Ricky Waddell back to the Academy. Ricky, who holds his UEFA A License, was coach at the Edusport Academy between 2012-2014 before moving to St Mirren. Ricky joins the Academy as Head Coach of the South of Scotland squad, taking over from Eddie Black. Ricky’s coaching methods and character are a perfect fit for the Academy – ambitious, dynamic and professional, the addition of Ricky to the staff is geat news for our players!
